بیانیهٔ آزادی بذر^{[۶]Declaration on Seed Freedom}

۱- بذر سرچشمهٔ زندگی و اشتیاقِ خودانگیختهٔ آن برای ابراز، نوزایی، تکثیر و تکوین همیشگی و آزادانه است.^{[۷]۱٫ Seed is the source of life, it is the self urge of life to express itself, to renew itself, to multiply, to evolve in perpetuity in freedom.}

۲- بذر تجسّم تنوع زیست‌فرهنگی^{[۸]biocultural diversity} است؛ دربردارندهٔ میلیون‌ها سال تکامل زیستی و فرهنگی از گذشته تا حال و هزاران سال شکوفایی بالقوه در آینده.^{[۹]۲٫ Seed is the embodiment of biocultural diversity. It contains millions of years of biological and cultural evolution of the past, and the potential of millennia of a future unfolding.}

۳- آزادی بذر، حقّ ذاتی^{[۱۰]birth right} همهٔ گونه‌های حیات و اساس حفاظت از تنوع زیستی است.^{[۱۱]۳٫ Seed Freedom is the birth right of every form of life and is the basis for the protection of biodiversity.}

۴- آزادی بذر، حقّ ذاتی همهٔ کشاورزان و تولیدکننده‌های غذا است. حقوق کشاورزان برای ذخیره، تبادل، تکامل، پرورش و فروش بذر در قلبِ آزادی بذر جای دارد. اگر این آزادی از کشاورزان سلب شود، آن‌ها به دام بدهی و چه بسا ارتکاب به خودکشی می‌افتند.^{[۱۲]۴٫ Seed Freedom is the birth right of every farmer and food producer. Farmers rights to save, exchange, evolve, breed, sell seed is at the heart of Seed Freedom. When this freedom is taken away farmers get trapped in debt and in extreme cases commit suicide.}

۵- آزادی بذر اساسِ آزادی غذا است؛ چراکه بذر اولین حلقه از زنجیرهٔ غذا است.^{[۱۳]۵٫ Seed Freedom is the basis of Food Freedom, since seed is the first link in the food chain.}

۶- حقوق ثبت و مالکیت اختراع (پتنت یا patent) به انحصاری‌شدن بذر می‌انجامند، بنابراین آزادی بذر را تهدید می‌کنند و ذخیره و تبادل آن توسط کشاورزان را غیرقانونی می‌‌‌سازند. حقوق ثبت و مالکیت اختراع از لحاظ اخلاقی و بوم‌شناسیک توجیه‌ناپذیر هستند: هدف آن‌ها تضمین حقوق انحصاریِ اختراعات است، در حالی که بذر اختراع نیست، زندگی اختراع نیست.^{[۱۴]۶٫ Seed Freedom is threatened by patents on seed, which create seed monopolies and make it illegal for farmers to save and exchange seed. ۷- زیست‌دزدی^{[۱۵]biopiracy} و ثبت حقوقی تنوع زیستی و دانش‌ بومی، آزادی بذر را در فرهنگ‌های گوناگون تهدید می‌کند. زیست‌دزدی نوآوری نیست—تاراج است.^{[۱۶]۷٫ Seed Freedom of diverse cultures is threatened by Biopiracy and the patenting of indigenous knowledge and biodiversity. Biopiracy is not innovation – it is theft.}

۹- تبدیل عامدانهٔ بذر از یک منبعِ خودزایندهٔ تجدیدپذیر^{[۲۰]a renewable self generative resource} به یک کالای تجدیدناپذیرِ تحت مالکیتِ شرکتی، آزادی بذر را تهدید می‌کند. حادّترین مصداقِ بذرِ تجدیدناپذیر، «فناوریِ ترمیناتور (نابودگر)» است که هدف آن ایجاد بذرهای عقیم است—بذرهایی که نمی‌توان از ثمرهٔ آن‌ها مجدداً بذر گرفت.^{[۲۱]۹٫ Seed Freedom is threatened by the deliberate transformation of the seed from a renewable self generative resource to a non renewable patented commodity. The most extreme case of non renewable seed is the “Terminator Technology” developed with aim to create sterile seed.}
